This organic dwelling captures the visionary spirit of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, whose work rejected the rigid constraints of rationalism in favor of the fluid laws of nature. Inspired by the philosophy that "there are no straight lines or sharp corners in nature," the design serves as a masterful interplay of biology and architecture, echoing the undulating stone and skeletal structures of Barcelona’s Modernism movement.
The façade is defined by a vertical cascade of sinuous mahogany planes, layered to evoke the sensation of eroded rock or tree bark. These biomorphic forms swell and recede, creating a dynamic surface that appears to have been grown rather than built. The entrance aperture is not merely cut but seemingly formed by the natural flow of the material, nestled within the rhythmic curves. Complete with textured, ribbed detailing reminiscent of the chimneys of Casa Milà, this habitat offers a sanctuary that is as sculptural as it is functional.
Bird Species: Various types of Chickadees, Wrens, Nuthatches
Birdhouse Placement: Chickadees: Install 5-15’ above the ground in undisturbed areas; 5 feet is fine if it feels safe and sheltered. Nuthatch: Install 5-20’ above the ground slightly higher up on a tree trunk. Wren: Install 5-10’ above the ground in old fields and thickets.
